New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announced his resignation Wednesday following recent national news coverage of his alleged connections to an online prostitution ring in Washington D.C. known as “The Emperor's Club. Spitzer’s announcement comes two days after the national media broke the story of his involvement with a 23-year-old prostitute named Ashley Alexandar Dupri or “Kristin” as her clients knew her.

Spitzer was allegedly caught on tape speaking about illicit activities with organizers of the prostitution ring. Known to the group as “Client-9”, Spitzer was monitored in an FBI sting for months.

With his wife by his side, Spitzer held a press conference stating how he was “deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me” and his focus is now on his family.

With Spitzer resigning and losing his “Super Delegate” status in the current race for the White House, how do Democratic voters feel about their party and his actions?

“I will always vote Democrat, but if I was his wife I would have been out of there and taking half of everything he had,” said registered Democrat Beth Bailey.

On the other end of the aisle, Orlando native and long time Republican voter Camille Matt said, “That is the way the world is today! Nobody has any morals anymore.”

As a former attorney general of the United States, Spitzer was well known for punishing those in the wrong. He led fights against corporate corruption and was responsible for the prosecution of many high-ranking Fortune 500 executives. This entire incident seems ironic to those such as Newsweek’s Daniel Gross.

“Spitzer was brought down by the investigations he pioneered,” said Gross.

Handing the Governor reins over to Lt. Gov. David Paterson, Spitzer plans on earning the trust of his family once again. At the request of Paterson, Spitzer’s resignation will take place March 17.
