The debate over equal rights for women has been a long and arduous journey for those involved. Women have fought to protect what they value most, their right to equal treatment at work, in law and other various areas of our society. There is now a book that will help those who want to know how to fight back in a statistically male dominated society.

Fox News legal analyst and author Lis Wiehl has written a new book called “The 51% Minority: How Women Still Are Not Equal and What You Can Do About It” documenting how women can protect themselves in every legal situation.

In her legal career, Wiehl has seen her share of women’s rights cases. Wiehl thinks that issues common to women are often seen as debilitating and a problem for those who bear them.

“It’s ridiculous, people see a pregnancy as a disability,” said Wiehl.

Wiehl is not a preacher. She has experienced these issues first hand as a successful woman in the workplace. A law professor in Washington,  Wiehl found herself being paid $5,000 less than an equally qualified colleague. Unable to accept this scenario, she made her move.

“I went to the provost and told him of the issue. Why should I be paid less than a man who has similar qualifications?” said Wiehl. “It wasn't about the money, $5,000 isn't a lot of money, but I would have quit. I was given the money, but told to be quiet about it.”
In her career in law and television, Wiehl has always fought for women’s rights. In her new book, she creates point-by-point scenarios to coach women in taking the proper actions to ensure their legal safety in various situations.

“I have created toolboxes for women to follow,” said Wiehl.

A common problem for women, to which Wiehl dedicates a chapter, is rape and the rights of women when they choose to come forward. According to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, more than half of sexual assaults go unreported in the United States.

“I feel that the rape shield and protection for the victim is important. But, cases like the Duke rape case have set women back 100 years,” said Wiehl.

Wiehl spends her days commenting on legal and moral issues on television and radio against the biggest names in media. She has long fought for women in commentary and now she has taken the fight to print. All of her research, thoughts, interviews and expertise reside in this new book.

In addition to her non-fiction ventures, Wiehl has recently added fiction writer to her list of accomplishments. She has signed a four book deal with the fifth largest publisher in the US, Thomas Nelson.

“I am so happy. These are the kind of books I read, now I get to write them” said Wiehl.

These new books will be suspense legal/murder mysteries. The first installment to her series, The DC Paige, will be released soon in bookstores all over the nation. A new twist to these kinds of books, Lis is open to fan ideas creating a fully interactive writing experience for them.

“I invite anyone who has ideas on cold cases to write me” said Wiehl.

Fellow Fox News Anchor Greg Jarrett enjoys Lis’s books as well.

“She loves writing those sexy novels” said Jarrett
